In Tamilnadu, officials of the Airport Authority of India and various stakeholders today met to discuss the preparedness in view of Cyclone Mandous for the next 72 hours. Airport Director Dr. Sharad Kumar said that all the teams have been kept on standby for emergency situations and also specifically emphasised the proper mooring of smaller aircraft and securing ground handling equipment in case of inclement weather.
General Manager of operations S.S. Raju asserted that in the event of operations being suspended on account of heavy cross-wind conditions non scheduled operators will be asked to explore the possibility of relocating their aircraft to a safer place outside Chennai Airport as a precautionary measure. It was also decided for ensuring the stocking of an adequate quantity of essential items in food courts in case of an emergency. The officials are scheduled to meet once every six hours to tackle the situation.
