President Droupadi Murmu addressed the special session of the Uttarakhand State Assembly. Extending her congratulations to all residents and legislators of the state, she commended Uttarakhand’s remarkable achievements over the past 25 years. She said, as a result of holistic development efforts, there has been improvement in several parameters of the Human Development Index in the state.
Expressing happiness over the rising literacy rate, the President said, the scope of women’s education has expanded in the state. She added that there has been a decline in maternal and infant mortality rates, and the government is making efforts to make healthcare services more accessible.
President Murmu said that from the sacred land of Uttarakhand, the traditions of spirituality and valour have been continuously flowing. She said this holy land has been the abode of many sages and seers, and the Kumaon and Garhwal Regiments reflect the state’s glorious tradition of valour.
The President said that the youth of the state show great enthusiasm for serving in the Indian Army and protecting the motherland. She said that many public representatives from Uttarakhand have made significant contributions to strengthening the country’s democratic tradition.
The President highlighted the state’s significant progress in the fields of environment, energy, tourism, health, education, and industrial development. Appreciating the efforts made toward women’s empowerment, she said that women such as Sushila Baluni, Bachendri Pal, and Vandana Katariya have brought great pride to Uttarakhand.
Referring to the state’s valiant and spiritual heritage, President Murmu praised the state government and the Assembly for their initiative to implement the Uniform Civil Code. She said that legislation inspired by transparency and social justice reflects Uttarakhand’s progressive outlook.
The President urged the public representatives to rise above party politics and focus on development and public welfare, emphasising the need to empower the underprivileged and the youth.
