PM Modi’s SCO Summit Visit to Tianjin Seen as Key to Strengthening Bilateral Ties: China

China’s Ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, yesterday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to Tianjin for the SCO Summit will give a fresh impetus to bilateral ties and will be an important event for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.

Speaking on the sidelines of an event in New Delhi, Xu said a Joint Working Group from China and India is working hard to make the visit successful. Xu recalled the recent visit of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to New Delhi, during which Prime Minister Modi underlined the importance of maintaining peace and tranquillity on the border and reiterated India’s commitment to a fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable resolution of the boundary question. Xu drew attention to the 24th round of Special Representatives’ dialogue on the boundary question between NSA Ajit Doval and Wang Yi, saying the talks reached a “very important 10-point consensus.”

Highlighting people-to-people exchanges, the Chinese Ambassador welcomed the resumption of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra and said Beijing is willing to work with India to promote friendly exchanges so citizens of both countries can visit each other “like relatives.” Addressing the gathering at the event titled “SCO Summit 2025 – Resetting India-China ties”, Xu stressed that China and India are partners, not rivals, and should manage differences through dialogue.

Meanwhile, Chinese Ambassador to India Xu Feihong has said that India-China relations have continued to improve and develop since the meeting between the leaders of both countries in Kazan last year. Addressing a dialogue on ‘SCO Summit 2025’ in New Delhi, Mr Feihong said that exchanges and cooperation between the two countries have gradually resumed across various fields, resulting in a series of positive outcomes. He noted that in the first half of this year, bilateral trades between the two countries have reached more than 74 billion US dollars, with a year-on-year increase of 10.2 per cent.
