Bihar leads in Ayushman Card creation as PM-JAY expands access to affordable healthcare

Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana-AB-PMJAY has granted every individual in need the entitlement to affordable medical treatment across the country. In a significant stride towards achieving universal health coverage, the scheme in Bihar has empowered lakhs of vulnerable families to access quality medical care. This represents the new India, driven by the principles of seva, sushasan and Garib Kalyan.

Bihar saw the creation of the highest number of Ayushman cards, and the number of hospitals included in the scheme also experienced a twofold increase this financial year. Talking to Akashvani News, Chief Medical Officer of Gaya District, Dr. Raja Ram Prasad, said that more than 13 lakh Ayushman cards have been created in the district. He added that in the last year, there has been a fold increase in the treatment of poor people by the government.

The Pradhanmantri Jan Aarogya Yojana, inaugurated on 23rd September 2018 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aims to provide quality healthcare and cashless treatment up to 5 lakh rupees per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalisation.
