In Sikkim, IAF’s two MI-17 helicopters, Indian Army, Air Force & National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are relentlessly working for the evacuation of tourists. However, due to inclement weather and challenging terrain in North Sikkim, the evacuation process was called off for the day yesterday. The evacuated tourists have been sent to Bagdogra airport by the Government of Sikkim.
Relief Commissioner cum Secretary, Land Revenue & Disaster Management Department, MT Sherpa visited disaster struck areas in Dzongu and Chungthang. He appealed to everyone not to rely on rumours and stated that things are fully under control and tourists can visit all other parts of Sikkim. The Relief Commissioner officially handed over the key to the emergency vehicle presented to the office of SDM Chungthang by the SSDMA for emergency responses. Chungthang is the only subdivision in the State to receive an emergency vehicle considering the spate of disasters that have occurred in the region in recent times.
