IMD Predicts Significant Drop In Minimum Temperatures Across North India

North India, including the national capital, will see a chilly New Year as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a significant drop in minimum temperatures across the region in the coming days. Talking exclusively to Akashvani News, IMD senior scientist, Dr. Soma Sen Roy said that dense fog conditions are likely to prevail over Northwest India today. She also added that heavy rainfall is expected over coastal Tamil Nadu today.

IMD said cold wave conditions will prevail in isolated pockets of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan. Cold wave to severe cold wave conditions are also likely in a few pockets of Himachal Pradesh. The IMD has forecast cold wave conditions in a few pockets of Rajasthan today. Punjab and Haryana are also likely to witness a cold day today.

The weather department has said that Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are likely to experience dense fog conditions in the night and morning hours for the next 2-3 days. IMD informed that there will be a fall in minimum temperatures by 4 to 6 degrees Celsius over Uttar Pradesh in the next 5 days.

Minimum temperatures in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Rajasthan are likely to fall by 3-4 degrees Celsius in the coming 3 days. The met department further informed that there will be no significant change in minimum temperatures over the central and eastern part of the country today but these regions can experience a fall of 3-4 degrees Celsius during the subsequent 3 days. The minimum temperature in Maharashtra can decrease by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius in the coming 5 days.
