Indian Navy undertakes mid-sea medical evacuation of Philipino off Kochi coast

The Indian Navy undertook a mid-sea medical evacuation of a Philipino, suspected to be suffering from Covid 19, from a merchant vessel MV Lyric Poet off the Kochi coast last evening.

The evacuation was launched after the Southern Naval Command headquarters in Kochi received information that the medical condition of Chief Officer of the vessel, Michael John Abaygar was severely deteriorating.

He was evacuated using an Advanced Light Helicopter despite adverse weather conditions and admitted to the Naval Hospital INS Sanjivini. The merchant vessel was enroute from Gibraltar to Machong.
