Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd. to deploy next-gen international submarine cables

Reliance Jio, one of the major mobile broadband digital service provider will now construct the largest international submarine cable system centered on India.

Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd. will work on two next-generation submarine cables which will expand its network to other regions of the world. The two subsea cable systems are India-Asia-Xpress (IAX) and the India-Europe-Xpress (IEX). The company is working along with different global partners and submarine cable supplier, SubCom to fulfill the data demand across the region.

India-Asia-Xpress (IAX) and the India-Europe-Xpress (IEX) subsea cable systems

The India-Asia-Xpress (IAX) will connect India to Asia pacific markets with express connectivity from Mumbai and Chennai to Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand. On the other hand, the India-Europe-Xpress (IEX) will widen the connectivity of India to the Middle East and Europe. According to the company (Reliance Jio), IAX is expected to deliver service by mid-2023. Whereas, IEX will deliver service in early 2024.

The two are also connected to the Reliance Jio Global Fiber Network beyond the Asia Pacific and Europe, connecting to both the east and west coast of the USA.

Cables will offer 200 Tbps

The whole technology is based on submarine cables, which are deployed in oceans and seas to connect continents with high-speed data. These high-capacity cables will provide more than 200 Tbps (Terabyte per Second) of capacity spanning over 16,000 kilometers.

What are Submarine cables?

A submarine cable is a communication cable that is deployed on the sea bed between land-based regions to carry telecommunication signals and data across the two regions. Modern Submarine cables use optical fiber technology to transfer data. The optical fiber cable communication is stronger than the traditional satellite communication system.
