New Delhi [India], June 8 : Union Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Ramvilas Paswan on Friday said the work on steel silos in the Food Corporation of India (FCI) would be expedited to take care of growing storage needs.
“We are reviewing the work related to the FCI. Our aim has been to reduce corruption to a bare minimum level. The storage loss has reached the minimum level,” he said while talking to media persons here.
“The Shanta Kumar Committee had suggested work to be done on the steel silos. The progress on this front has been slow. Against the target to create 100 lakh tonne capacity of silos, we have achieved only 6.75 lakh tonne capacity,” he said.
“The construction work for 22 lakh tonne silos capacity is in progress. We have also allotted the work of silos to the RITES and have given them 90 days’ target to create 22 lakh tonne silos capacity,” he said.
Regarding the use of information technology (IT) in the department, Paswan said: “We have a plan to increase the use of IT in our department. We have our all depots online now.”
