Apart from Rohtang Tunnel, 3 other tunnels are being constructed on the strategically important Manali-Leh road. For the first time in the country, a geological survey is being done by the Mi-17 helicopter of the Air Force. On Tuesday, a helicopter trial has been conducted around Bhuntar and Nagavai on the border of Kullu and Mandi district. On Wednesday, the Mi-17 helicopter will now go to the areas of Lahaul where the tunnels will be built, while the army is now going to use this road more to reach Leh-Ladakh.
According to sources, on Tuesday, December 10, 2019, the helicopter kept hovering around Bhuntar and Nagwai for the whole day. The Union Road and Transport Ministry has started this exercise to keep 12 months of traffic in areas adjacent to China and Pakistan. Under the ministry, the National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited and the Air Force have started a geological survey for 3 tunnels.
A report has revealed that the help of a foreign antenna is being taken in it. After a successful trial on Tuesday, the helicopter will now survey in Lahaul Valley on Wednesday. Airports Authority of India Kullu-Manali Airport Director Neeraj Kumar Srivastava said that in this survey, a team of Kullu-Manali Airport is cooperating with the Air Force for the geological survey of tunnels. He said that such survey is being done for the first time in India.
