9 killed, 17 injured in UP gunfight between 2 groups over property dispute

A property dispute in eastern Uttar Pradesh’s Sonbhadra district led to a gunfight between two groups that left 9 people dead and another 17 injured. Local media reported that the shootout in a village in the district’s Ghorawal block lasted for nearly an hour.

Sonbhadra district magistrate Ankit Kumar Agarwal told UP news channel, Bharat Samachar, that the clash between the two groups involved nearly 100 people.

The incident took place in a village close to the state’s border with Madhya Pradesh this morning.

According to the information available so far, about 9 people have died and 17 people are injured, the district’s administrative chief said.

Agarwal told the news channel that the trigger for the clash appeared to be a land dispute. “We are still investigating,” he said, declining to elaborate any further.
