The World Bank released a study report showing the percentage of the population in select countries that owned a bank account.The study was for the year 2017.
Australia and Canada are the top two in the list, with 100% and Pakistan languishing at a mere 21%. India stood eighth, with 80% of the population owning at least one bank account.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s emphasis on more of cashless or online transactions, rather than cash, may have necessitated more people to open a bank account.
