Government today said that as on January this year, 723 Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendras (PMKK) have been established in the country. Replying to supplementaries in the Lok Sabha, Skill development and entrepreneurship Minister Dr Mahendra Nath Pandey said his ministry is implementing demand driven scheme, Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) 2016-20 for short duration skill development training.
Dr Pandey said PMKVY does not mandate the establishment of permanent skill development centres as it is a demand-driven scheme. The minister informed the House that DGFT under skill development ministry is also implementing long duration vocational courses through industrial training institutes. Dr Pandy said, Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS) scheme for skill development is being implemented through its institutional framework in the country with the objective to improve the occupational skills and technical knowledge of the neo literate.
The minister informed the House that PMKVY scheme envisaged to increase the availability of skilled people in various job roles.
