28th Annual Football Championship in Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir has begun on March 3 in Jammu. The tournament will bring back the sports enthusiasm among the individuals as the pandemic halted all sports activities around the nation. Sports in the valley has been always encouraged to inspire young and budding athletes to excel in the field. J&K Football Association informed that the championship has started from March 3 in Jammu which will be followed in Sopore, Anantnag, and Srinagar in the 2nd week of the month.
Real Kashmir FC: coming up against all odds
The club competed in the I-League second division in 2016-17 season but was unable clear the preliminary group stage. I-League is the professional league for the Indian men’s association football clubs which was started in 2007.
Over a period of time, the Snow Leopards came back hard with no one expecting them to win I-League for the 2017-18 season. They recreated the moment that Leicester City F.C. did in 2015-16 English Premier League, the club won their first top tier title, becoming one of seven clubs to have won the Premier League since its inception in 1992.
On 19 December 2020, Real Kashmir FC have also listed their name in Indian football history as they were the champions of the 123rd edition of the historic IFA Shield.

A legend that has made a name in this sport from J&K is Farooq Ahmad Bhat, late Farooq was known as the ‘Pele of Kashmir’. He was a natural goalscorer and was instrumental in the state and national-level success of the J&K State Road Transport Corporation. He is a role model for footballers in the valley.
