26 Naxals killed in Gadchiroli encounter
The Gadchiroli police have succeeded in eliminating 26 Naxals in an encounter that took place this morning in Gyarapatti-Kotgul forest area in Dhanora taluka.
Three policemen were injured in the encounter and were airlifted to Nagpur for treatment, Superintendent of Police Ankit Goyal said.
Meanwhile, the exact identity of the Naxals killed in today’s clash is yet to be ascertained. The clash started in the morning in Gyarapatti-Kotgul forest area of Dhanora taluka.
A search operation is still being conducted by the police in the area. This area is close to the Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh border and is covered with dense forest, making it difficult for communication.
Police had received information that some Naxalite movement was going on in Gyarapatti-Kotgul forest area of Dhanora taluka.
On the basis of that information, the police have been conducting anti-Naxal operations since Friday night.
The police retaliated in the same manner as the Naxals who were sitting in the forest area indiscriminately opened fire on the police personnel.
