2105 beds added in the Central Government Hospitals for COVID patients in Delhi

The second wave has hit the nation in early April and preparation are underway to fight the virus in a safe and effective manner. Cases are rising in Delhi and to control the alarming situation, hospital beds are being increased in the Central Government Hospitals for COVID patients in Delhi.

2105 beds added in Central Government Hospitals in New Delhi

Additional 2105 beds are provided in Central Government Hospitals including Safdarjung, RML, LHMC, AIIMS Delhi, AIIMS Jhajjhar, ESIC Okhla & Jhilmil, and All India Institute of Ayurveda, Sarita Vihar. The beds include 1875 oxygen beds and 230 ICU beds.

The number of beds in Delhi has increased by four times from March 1st. The Union Health Ministry is in the process of continuously adding COVID beds in Central Government hospitals. Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) is also helping to set up field Hospitals/makeshift facilities. 46 additional beds at Safdarjung Hospital and 240 beds at Lady Hardinge Medical College are expected to be added over the next week.

Indian Railways to provide 1200 beds

Indian Railways will dedicate 50 coaches with 16 beds each at the Shakur Basti station. This will provide 800 beds for isolation. Further, the Indian Railways will provide 25 coaches with 16 beds in its Anand Vihar facility by 21st April 2021. This will add 400 beds which will be used as isolation facilities.

On 19th April 2021, 250 ICU beds were made operational in the DRDO facility in Dhaula Kuan. Another 250 ICU beds will be in operation from 21st April 2021.

Continuous efforts are being made from all sides, be it Center or State. Yesterday PM Narendra Modi also stressed the need to strictly follow the Covid protocol. He also urged the states to take lockdown as the last option for controlling the situation.
