Wimbledon: Men’s, Women’s single title clash scheduled for today

In Wimbledon Tennis, eight-time winner Roger Federer has set up a mouth-watering Men’s Singles title clash with world number one Novak Djokovic.

In the first semi-final, defending champion Djokovic, the top-seeded Serb, reached his 25th Grand Slam final when he got the better of Spain’s Roberto Bautista Agut, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Later, in the second semi-final, second seed Federer, a 20-time Grand Slam winner, outplayed world number two Rafael Nadal, 7-6, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 to move within a win of a record-equalling ninth Wimbledon Singles title.

Federer’s eight titles are more than any other man in history and if he beats Djokovic in tomorrow’s Final, he will match Czech Martina Navratilova’s Women’s Singles record.

Djokovic, on the other hand, will be chasing his fifth Wimbledon title.

In Women’s Singles, the summit clash between 11th seed Serena Williams and seventh-placed Simona Halep will be played today. Serena will be aiming to equal the all-time record of 24 Grand Slam trophies.

The American already holds the record for the most Grand Slam Singles titles in the Open era with 23, but she is eying to equal Australian Margaret Court’s record set between 1960 and 1973 at a time that spanned the amateur and Open era.
