Is India becoming a Fascist Nation?
A group of people have kept saying India is becoming intolerant since 2014 and they went on return to the Awards conferred by the Government of India. While people with opposite ideology mocked them as Award Wapsi gang. Recent development of events revolving around the stand-up comedian artists may reverberate these terminologies like Intolerance and Fascism.
Few days ago, a video surfaced on twitter where stand-up comedian Agrima Joshua was seen mocking events around the project of the Chatrapathi Shivaji Maharaj statue, that was announced by former BJP led alliance in Maharashtra.
A huge controversy broke around it, a group of party workers vandalised the studio where the stand-up comedy was recorded. They were furious at Marathi-pride being mocked in the name of Stand-up comedy. The organizers issued an apology. Later, Agrima also posted a video apology.
Several other videos by stand-up comedian like Vir-Das, Sourav Ghosh, Munavar Farqui emerged in the social media mocking Shivaji Maharaj and Hinduism.
Right-Wing Activists and Netizens are enraged about their beliefs being taunted in the name of comedy. They are also asserting these comedians are hypocrites who have constantly mocked Hindus and Indian Army. In the name of atheism, several comedians are targeting only the Hindu Gods and rituals.
Angry netizens are challenging if they can do jokes on Christianity or Islam. They claim that they do not have problem with comedy acts which are not below the belt and quote about several actors or comedians who have brought joy without hurting anyone’s sentiment or beliefs. They proclaim such gags will not be tolerated anymore.
