Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2025: Ministers call it ‘historic,’ opposition terms it ‘anti-constitutional’

Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Bhagirath Chaudhary has termed the Waqf Amendment Bill historic, saying that Muslims will hugely benefit from the bill.Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, BL Verma, remarked that the bill was much needed in order to protect the rights of common and poor Muslims.On the other hand, Leader of Opposition and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said that the opposition has put forth their views on the bill. He accused the government of taking a negative step.TMC MP Sagarika Ghose has called the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2025 anti-constitutional and said that the bill fundamentally erodes the individual freedom to practice religion.
