Uttar Pradesh govt gives green signal to Ramlila events; red flags Durga Puja public celebrations

The coronavirus pandemic has led to subdued celebrations of several festivals across the country. As the Navratri season is approaching, Uttar Pradesh government led by Chief Minister Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath has given a go-ahead to Ramlila events but with certain restrictions.

According to the guidelines for the Ramila events across the state, the Uttar Pradesh administration has announced that an attendance cap of 100 persons should be followed for a particular event.

The persons present at the Ramlila events should follow all COVID-19 protocols of social distancing, mask use and sanitation issued by central, state governments.

Keeping in mind the coronavirus outbreak, the Yogi Adityanath-led government has directed that the Ramlila organsiers should ensure that hand sanitisers are kept at entry points and every attendant should use it before entering the premises. Also, wearing of masks has been made compulsory to get entry.

Durga Puja: No public celebrations in Uttar Pradesh

In the wake of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided that public events to celebrate Durga Puja will not be allowed in the state. People wishing to celebrate Durga Puja have been asked to bring idols of Goddess Durga home and worship.

As per the new guidelines issued by the UP government for Durga Puja, no celebrations will be allowed to take place on the streets or pandals.

Also, no ‘melas’ will be organised this year as it would lead to huge gathering and result in spread of COVID-19.

Uttar Pradesh currently has 53,953 active COVID-19 cases. As per the data released by the UP health department, 3,31,270 patients have recovered across the state, while 5,652 coronavirus patients have succumbed to the deadly contagious virus so far. Uttar Pradesh’s average recovery rate stood at 84.75 per cent on September 28.
