Washington (USA), Nov 6 : Facebook has blocked 115 accounts, including 30 on Instagram, which may have been linked to “foreign entities” and engaged in “coordinated inauthentic behavior” trying to interfere in the US midterm elections.
“Given that we are only one day away from important elections in the U.S., we wanted to let people know about the action we’ve taken and the facts as we know them today,” Facebook head of cybersecurity policy, Nathaniel Gleicher, said in a blog post.
The post further stated that the Instagram accounts were in English while the pages linked to Facebook accounts were in French and Russian.
“Almost all the Facebook Pages associated with these accounts appear to be in the French or Russian languages, while the Instagram accounts seem to have mostly been in English – some were focused on celebrities, others political debate,” Gleicher wrote.
The social media giant also informed that once known it would update, including whether the accounts are linked to the Russian-based Internet Research Agency.
