The Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) has taken a number of initiatives to ease the lives of citizens by facilitating the online delivery of Government services. MeitY has enabled map services in the “UMANG App” through an MOU with MapmyIndia to further strengthen the Digital India Program’s activities keeping in mind the concept of “Aatmanirbhar Bharat.”
Due to the integration of UMANG with MapmyIndia Maps, citizens will be able to find government services near them, such as mandis, blood banks, and more, at the touch of a button.
People will be able to see these on MapmyIndia’s most comprehensive and interactive street and village level maps of India. Through the connectivity between the UMANG App and MapmyIndia, citizens can see the driving distance, obtain directions, and turn-by-turn audio and visual assistance to places, including traffic and road safety warnings during navigation, through the linkage between UMANG App and MapmyIndia.
Through MapmyIndia, the UMANG app has already begun to provide map functionality in the following services:
Mera Ration – Users may find and travel to the ‘nearest fair price stores’ using UMANG since shops are visible as points on the MapmyIndia integrated map.
eNAM – The ‘mandi near me’ feature, available through UMANG, will assist users in locating and navigating to local mandis shown on a map.
Damini – The ‘damini lightning notifications’ service gives users an alert and visual of local regions where lightning has hit in the past few minutes. On the map display, this alert mechanism shows the likelihood of lightning strikes.
To make the map even more useful to residents, it will be made available via a number of new services in the near future, including:
ESIC – Users may browse ESIC centres such as hospitals and dispensaries using the map view.
Indian Oil – Service will be made available to identify nearby gas station retailers and distributors, as well as fuel filling stations.
NHAI– While travelling, users may access toll plazas and toll pricing information.
NCRB– On the map, the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) will display the data related to nearby police stations.
GSPMY- Users can utilise the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (Meri Sadak) to report damaged roads (under GSPMY) by choosing the route on the MapmyIndia platform.
The UMANG mobile app (Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance) is a single, unified, secure, multi-channel, multi-platform, multi-lingual, multi-service mobile app developed by the Government of India that provides access to high-impact services from multiple organisations (Central and State). Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the UMANG App in 2017.
UMANG combines important government services into a single mobile app, with the objective of making the government accessible to residents via their mobile phones. UMANG now offers 1,251 services from 257 departments as well as 20,280 utility bill payment services, with many more in the pipeline.
The number of UMANG users has surpassed 3.41 million across Android, iOS, Web, and KaiOS platforms. Citizens may also use UMANG to access their Digilocker Accounts and provide feedback after using any service provided by the Rapid Assessment System (RAS), which has been integrated with UMANG.
MapmyIndia is India’s leading geospatial data and technology company that was formed in 1995 and is located in New Delhi. It has digitally mapped the whole country and allows users to locate important locations in their immediate vicinity and view them on precise building level maps. MapmyIndia’s APIs make it simple for app and technology developers to include India’s own maps into their apps, further boosting the Aatmanirbhar Bharat campaign.
