The number nine is often associated with a divine connotation in the mystical thought and religions across the globe from ancient times. There is both, negativity and positivity in this mysterious nine! Not to talk of the numeral 9, which is often cited as a ‘lucky number’ for many these days! Number 9 is the last single digit number of the highest value. In Hindu religion, number 9 is very important. Keeping the importance of number 9 Rishi Vyas created 9 Purans, 108 MahaPuran (Upnishads).
According to Hinduism there are 4 Yugas. Namely Satyug, Tretayug, Dwaparyug and Kalyug. See how the number 9 features through time immemorial:
- Satyug – consists of 172,800 years (1 7 2 8) = 18 = (1 8 = 9)
- Tretayug – consists of 1296000 years (1 2 9 6) = 18 = (1 8 = 9)
- Dwaparyug – consists of 864000 years (8 4 6) = 18 = (1 8 = 9)
- Kalyug – consists of 432000 years (4 3 2) = 9
On an average it is considered that a healthy person takes 21600 breaths in a day which again sums up into the number 9 ie- (2 + 1 + 6=9).
There are 9 Planets, 9 Holy Devisthals, 9 Auspicious Ratri(Navratri), According to Hindu Astronomy there are 27 constellations in our galaxy, and each one them has 4 directions, and 27 * 4 = 108(1 0 8=9), In other words the number 108 covers the whole galaxy.
In Hinduism Number 9 is the number of Brahma, the Creator. The number 9 is a sacred number. It denotes completion and fulfilment of all karma. Number 9 is a symbol of wisdom and good leadership. It is an angelic number. Number 9 completes a 3600 circle ie- (3+6= 9).
Mathematically, the number 9 multiplied by any whole number (except zero), the sum of the answer of the product will always be ‘9’. Consider the example 2 x 9 =18 (1 + 8 = 9)
Hence it is considered as a complete number in itself that why we give importance to number 9. It is symbol of Humanity.
