Textiles Ministry has released Two Quality Control Orders (QCOs) for 20 items of Agro Textiles and six items of Medical Textiles. The order will be effective from first of April next year. The government has exempted Self-Help Groups from the Meditech QCOs while Micro and Small units are given relaxation for one year to facilitate penetration without affecting availability.
Medical textiles QCO encompass Sanitary Napkins, Shoe Covers, Dental Napkins, Disposable Baby Diapers, Reusable Sanitary Pads, Bed Sheets and Pillow Covers. Agro Textiles also contains a wide range of items including Harvest netsfor, Fencing netsfor and Windshield netsfor agriculture and horticulture purposes. The QCOs are equally applicable to domestic manufacturers as well as foreign manufacturers who intend to export their products to India.
