In Tamil Nadu, Union Minister for fisheries Giriraj Singh disbursed subsidy amounts to three boat building yards for construction of deep sea fishing boats scheme worth Rs. One crore 64 lakhs under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sambadha Yojana at Kunthakkal Harbour Ramanathapuram today.
Speaking at the function the Minister said that the Government has invested 20 thousand fifty crore for fisheries development throughout the Country. He said that the Centre would take up the fishermen issues with the neighbouring Srilankan Government which will provide a solution to make their livelihood a success.
The Minister also gave away the in principle loan sanction letter to 13 beneficiaries under the Palk Bay deep sea fishing boats scheme. The schemes include seaweed cultivation, backyard ornamental fishing and open sea cage farming.
Nine self help groups consisting of 27 fishermen and women each will be benefited under the scheme.
