A day-long Special Session of Bihar Legislature will be held today to ratify the Constitution Amendment Bill, which proposes to extend SC/ST quota in Lok Sabha and State Assemblies by another 10 years. The Assembly Speaker Vijay Kumar Choudhary said members of the house will hold discussion on state government’s proposal to ratify the Bill.
The Constitution Amendment bill, which was passed by Parliament last month, has to be ratified by at least 50 per cent of the State Assemblies before it is brought into force. The reservation for members of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, given for the past 70 years in Lok Sabha and State Assemblies, is due to end on 25th of January.
