In what expected to be a shocking Intelligent report, continuous gold smuggling activities in Kerala are linked to Terrorist organization Islamic State (IS). Continuous gold smuggling being used for cultivating terrorist activities says the report.
Another shocking statement in the report that newly recruited ISIS terrorists is being used for gold smuggling activities.
The Intelligence charted the report after the Thiruvananthapuram airport gold smuggling case was handed over to the National Investigation Agency. However, the NIA probe will not be limited to the gold smuggling in the capital city. They will conduct a holistic investigation of all types of smuggling activities happening over airports in the state regardless of the scale of smuggling.
In the same instance, the NIA is probing whether high-ranking officials were involved in the gold smuggling racket. The NIA will also investigate the role of the chief minister’s office in the gold smuggling after it was found that the principal accused Swapna Suresh alleged links with Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary M Sivasankar. Sivasankar was soon expelled from the position and currently being interrogated by officials on his connection with Swapna Suresh and Gold smuggling racket though he denies allegations on him Customs have named him a “person of interest” in the case.
NIA had arrested Swapna Suresh and Sandeep Nair the prime suspects in the smuggling case. They were arrested when planned to escape to Nagaland from Bengaluru. Flee of suspects from Kerala to Karnataka raises serious questions on surveillance of Kerala state government when borders are closed due to COVID-19 issue and all cross border travels are highly scrutinized. NIA had invoked various provisions of the Unlawful Prevention Act in the First Information Report against the suspected arrested. NIA special court has remanded the suspects into 14-day judicial custody.
