Kochi: A jewellery owner in Malappuram has been taken into custody in connection with the gold smuggling case. It was found that the gold smuggled by the accused was purchased by him.
The owner of SS Jewellery in Malappuram was taken into custody. The smugglers brought the gold from Dubai to sell it to jewelleries. There are reports that Rs 8 crore was arranged for gold smuggling. The amount was raised by Rameez, Jalal, Hamjath Ali and Sandeep.
Among them, Jalal made the contracts with jewelleries. Also those who invested money for gold smuggling were arrested. According to reports, Swapna Suresh and Sarith, the key accused in the case, received Rs 7 lakh as commission for the transaction.
