Punjab govt has assured that all blockades on rail premises by protesters will be cleared by today: Railway Board Chairman

Railway Board Chairman VK Yadav has said that the Punjab government has given an assurance that all blockades on rail premises by protesters will be cleared by today. Addressing a press conference in New Delhi yesterday through video conference, Mr Yadav said, out of 31 blockades 14 were removed by yesterday evening.

According to Railway Ministry, due to the agitation, the loss has crossed one thousand 200 crore rupees. It said, due to the continued blockages at sections of tracks in Punjab, there has been a major adverse impact on Freight movement and hence on availability of vital commodities for the farm, industrial and infrastructure sector as well.

All passenger trains passing through Punjab have been adversely impacted too. The Ministry said, till date more than one thousand 350 passenger trains have been cancelled, diverted or short terminated.
