Patience, Perseverance, and Dedication: The key to be a Civil Servant

Civil Servants are the backbone of the nation and they bear the responsibility of the whole country. They are the key elements in our vast complex democracy that help in Policy implementation.

Every year National Civil Services Day is observed on April 21 to commemorate the day when, in 1947, independent India’s first Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel addressed the newly selected administrative service officers at Metcalfe House, Delhi. In 2006, the first National Service Day was observed to honor the responsibilities that a Civil Servant holds.

UPSC Civil Services Exam: One of the toughest Exams

UPSC Civil Services Exam is among the toughest examinations in the world. Every year around 10 Lakh candidates aspire to become a Civil Servant, but the passing percentage for the exam is around 0.1 percentage. So it’s not a fast race, it’s a marathon. As in a marathon, players usually break, get out of stamina, lose hope and finally quit but the one with the strongest will and preparation eventually crosses the finish line.

The same is for UPSC Civil Services Exam. The candidates have to undergo a series of exams, rigorous preparation, and finally an interview to pass the examination which enables them to serve the nation as a Civil Servant. Civil Services include Indian Administrative Services (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and other central groups A and group B posts.

Prime Minister took on Twitter to wish the National Civil Services Day

PM Narendra Modi wished all the Civil Servants on National Civil Service Day. He said in a Tweet “Best wishes to all Civil Servants on the occasion of Civil Services Day. In different terrains and across different sectors, they are working tirelessly to help our citizens and enhance national progress. May they keep serving the nation with the same zeal.”
