At least 40 people were killed and eight others injured after a passenger coach plunged into a deep ravine on the Sherani-Zhob highway in Pakistan today. The accident took place in the Danasar area near the border of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to the Medical Emergency Response Centre, 40 bodies have been recovered from the crash site. The injured have been shifted to the Trauma Centre in Zhob for treatment. Rescue teams, ambulances and emergency personnel were rushed to the spot. The rescue operation is continuing. The coach was travelling from Quetta to Peshawar. Authorities said additional passengers had boarded the bus after another coach broke down during the journey. An emergency has been declared at hospitals in Sherani and Dera Ismail Khan to provide immediate medical care to the injured. Authorities have ordered an investigation into the cause of the accident.
