BENGALURU: Even though the Covid-19 pandemic has spread the state’s finances thin, the Karnataka government on Tuesday said it will not cut the salaries of its employees and legislator for now.
After Telangana and Maharashtra announced deep pay cuts for employees and legislators, state employees were worried that they might take home a trimmed pay packet. “For now, there’s no pay-cut proposal before the government. If the lockdown stretches beyond April 14, then the government might consider that step,” said a source in the CMO.
The employees have donated a day’s salary, amounting to about Rs 200 crore, to fight Covid-19. They had also contributed to help flood victims last year. “Hence, the government doesn’t want to effect a pay cut now,” the source said.
