“Music truly knows no boundaries,” said Director SS Rajamouli on RRR’s Golden Globe win
Histories are not made in a day. It takes sweat, passion, patience and perseverance. This is what SS Rajamouli’s RRR Golden Globe win has proved. The movie created history by becoming the first Indian movie ever to bag the Golden Globe Award. It won in the category, Best Song – Motion Picture for ‘Naatu Naatu’. With the win, it also became the first Asian song to win a Golden Globe.
The internet is flooded with millions of dance enactments on the song Naatu Naatu’, composed by music director MM Keeravaani, who while accepting the award also thanked the actors Ram Charan and Junior NTR, for their energetic dance sequence. The lyrics are by Chandrabose, which is essentially an upbeat, high on energy and celebratory song.
Watching the world cheer for an Indian film is one of the greatest moments for the Indian Cinema. The song has been rendered by Kala Bhairava and Rahul Sipligunj. It was competing for the honour against Taylor Swift’s ‘Carolina’ from ‘Where the Crawdads Sing’; ‘Ciao Papa’ (Alexandre Desplat, Roeban Katz, and Guillermo del Toro) from Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio; ‘Hold My Hand’ (Lady Gaga, BloodPop, and Benjamin Rice) from Top Gun: Maverick and ‘Lift Me Up’ (Tems, Rihanna, Ryan Coogler, and Ludwig Göransson) from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
It was also nominated in the Best Non-English Language Film which it lost to Argentina,1985 from Argentina.
The Golden Globe win has raised high hopes for the prestigious Academy Awards too, for which the movie has made a cut in the list of 301 feature films eligible for the award. The movie has already won in the category, Best Director at the New York Film Critics Circle awards.
RRR is a period drama, set in the British-occupied India of the 1920s. Junior NTR and Ram Charan play freedom fighters Komaram Bheem and Alluri Seetharamaraju in the movie. It also features Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn, British actors Ray Stevenson, Alison Doody and Olivia Morris.
The occasion immediately became the talk of the town with congratulatory messages pouring in from all around. PM Narendra Modi called the win ‘a very special accomplishment’ and congratulated the entire team on the win.
