Kasaragod: A group of Muslim League activists attacked a party member and his family here following the results of the local body elections. The men attacked the family alleging that they voted for LDF candidate.
The incident came into light after a video of the attack went viral on social media. Following this, police booked 9 Muslim League activists who attacked the family.
The incident took place at Kalluravi in Kanhangad.
C Nizar, a Muslim League activist and painting worker, was attacked by a group of his party men at his residence. Women at the house and neighbouring houses rushed to the spot and blocked the attackers.
Amidst this, one among the women was also manhandled by the attackers.
Hosdurg police registered a case against CH Rasheed (24), Ubais (24), Jamshi (22), Ummar (28), Nizamuddin (26), Samad (25), CH Nooruddin, Hasan Muthode (26) and KP Shabeer (27) over the incident.
Inspector E Anoop Kumar informed that the 9 attackers were booked under IPC Sections 452, 354 and 324.
In the statement to police, Nizar revealed that the men attacked him and his family alleging that they voted for LDF candidate in the local body elections.
Meanwhile, Muslim League Kanhangad constituency president MP Jafar stated that rivalry between two families led to the incident. He alleged that LDF pressurised the police to register a case against Muslim League workers to hide their disappointment over losing the polls.
