Good news for commuters as Western Railway (WR) and Central Railway (CR) will install interactive kiosks on stations through which one can be able to access information about timings of local and outstation trains. The commuters can also access information about passenger amenities, the location of the Railway Protection Force (RPF), washrooms, escalators, and elevators.
According to Hindustan Times, the first phase of passenger broadcast system (PBS), will be installed on major suburban WR and Central Railway (WR) stations. Stations like Mumbai Central, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Churchgate, Dadar, Byculla, Bandra, Andheri, Borivli, Kurla and Thane will have the passenger broadcast system (PBS) installed.
The tenders for induction of these kiosks will be floated next week. Aarti Singh Parihar, senior divisional commercial manager, WR told the leading daily, “The system is in the planning stage and after all aspects are in place, we will be able to begin installing them by December.” The Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu in March 2017 introduced the idea of having these kiosks to help commuters.
