Maha DurgaAshtami is being celebrated in different parts of the country today

Durga Ashtami or Maha Ashtami is being celebrated in different parts of the country today. Maha Ashtami, which is the third day of Durga Puja, is considered to be the most important day of the festival. During the Mahashtami puja, all the nine forms of Goddess Durga are worshipped. The day is usually marked with rituals like Kumari Puja and the Sandhi Puja.

In Uttar Pradesh, Maha Ashtami or Durga Ashtami is being celebrated with gaiety and religious fervour across the state.

In Gujarat, the festivities of Navaratri has reached its peak-peak with people participating in Garbas and Dandiyas till late in the night. Special puja and havans will be held at temples and various Garba groups on the occasion of Ashtami today.

President  Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have greeted the people on the occasion of Maha Ashtami.  In his message, Mr. Kovind said, Durga Puja symbolises the victory of good over evil and also strengthens the belief that ultimate truth and justice prevail. 

He said this belief inspires people to follow the path of honesty, truth and justice. He added that by doing so, we will succeed in taking the benefits of development to even the most deprived sections of society. The President urged the people to celebrate this festival with full fervour, enthusiasm and harmony.

In a tweet, Prime Minister wished people that Goddess Durga bring happiness, good luck and prosperity in their lives.
