The last rites of Dwarka-Sharda Peeth Shankaracharya Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati will be performed at Narsinghpur in Madhya Pradesh this afternoon. Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati breathed his last at the Shridham Jhoteshwar Ashram in Narsinghpur yesterday. He was 99. He became Shankaracharya in 1981. Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati went to jail during the freedom movement. He also fought a long legal battle for the construction of Ram temple.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the passing away of Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati. In a tweet, the Prime Minister offered his condolences to his followers in this hour of grief.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan said, the incomparable contribution of Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati to the Indian knowledge tradition will be remembered by the whole world for eternity.
