Kuwait’s Emir, His Highness Shaikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah, said that citizens should unite and cast away their differences and work together for a better future in order to protect their homeland from internal and external conflicts.
Addressing the fourth ordinary session of the National Assembly’s 15th legislative term, the Emir said that the region was going through an exceptional and unprecedented phase with conflicts and instability occurring in neighbouring countries, Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported. As a result, the people of Kuwait must take into consideration the importance of national unity and solidarity to overcome any obstacle that may cause harm to the country, he said.
The Emir warned that the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and the Arab world must overcome differences and set sight on the overall benefit and welfare of the peoples or else they might meet an ill fate, the agency said. The GCC, established in 1981, comprises Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
The Kuwait leader also warned against the use of social media and other platforms to sow discord and incite sectarianism. He called on the National Assembly to take proper steps focusing on the development of Kuwait and its people in cooperation with the government, affirming that the executive and legislative branches were both established to serve the higher interests of the people.
The Emir renewed his trust in Speaker Marzouq Al Ghanim and Prime Minister Shaikh Jaber Al Mubarak Al Hamad Al Sabah, wishing them success in attending to their responsibilities during the legislative term.
