The PIC India program is being run in the country under the central government scheme under which all the scientists of the country are conducting research on cow urine and cow dung. Recently, according to the information given in the Lok Sabha by the Union Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan in the first phase of the budget session, the Ministry of Science and Technology has taken the initiative to start this national program.
In fact, the Ministry of Science and Technology has taken the initiative to launch a national program on the subject called “PIC Bharat Program” (Research Promotion – Scientific Experimentation through the best products of indigenous cows).
Many ministries are working together
In this program, Department of Science and Technology, Department of Biotechnology, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, Indian Council of Medical Research, Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and Ministry of AYUSH are working together.
Study on the utility of cow in different areas
Under the program, project proposals have been invited through a free call from scientists and academics in the thematic areas of indigenous cow’s prodigy and the core products of indigenous cow for medicine and health, agricultural applications, food and nutrition and consumer goods. These include scientists and academics from Indian research institutes, academics, S&T competent voluntary organizations (NGOs). However some former Indian scientists opposed funding of research under the “PIC Program”.
India, the world’s largest animal population with biodiversity of animal breeds
India is the most populous country in the world with a wide biodiversity of 43 indigenous animal breeds. The Indian animal breed is hereditary unique to the origin of animal breeds and its adaptation to the associated local environment.
Steps taken to encourage research in ancient science
An understanding of the distinctiveness of Indian animal breeds and the effective use of the effects of cow-borne products has been limited to traditional knowledge for many generations based on their experiences. Through this program, the government is making concerted efforts to scientifically explore traditional methods using modern procedures and tools. This knowledge will also help in scientifically appropriate use of this comprehensive national resource for social, economic development. Along with this, an interdisciplinary program in scientific exploration of the methods of yoga and contemplation in other fields related to ancient science was launched in the year 2015. This program is known as Yoga and Meditation Science and Technology (Satyam).
