Kerala unlikely to get relaxation in COVID lockdown norms
Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan hinted that Kerala is not likely to get any relaxation from the guidelines issued by the central government regarding the extension of lockdown till May 3.
The restrictions on transportation and liquor sale will not be removed. The chief minister added that the cabinet meeting on Thursday will discuss the possible exemptions that can be imposed in Kerala by strictly complying with the central government’s directions.
The Centre had granted some relaxations for the jute industry in the category of traditional industries. The cabinet will decide on the functioning of cashew, handloom and beedi industries in Kerala. The relaxation in agriculture sector will be utilized for cardamom plantations also.
Programmes where people may gather should be avoided. The situation is still vulnerable so that violating restrictions can end up in disaster. People need to stay alert, the chief minister repeated.
