The Customs decided in a high-level meeting held on Monday to question the politician after Swapna revealed that he was aware of the gold smuggling and had helped her many times. They also decided to quiz M Sivasankar, former principal secretary of the chief minister.
The politician knew about Swapna’s deals and he played a key role in making her the intermediary in many transactions. The Customs received some confidential information that before Swapna was arrested, she and the politician used to meet secretly for the transactions.
The officials also cross-checked the statements given by Sivasankar and Swapna and found some contradictions. They decided to interrogate Sivasankar again due to the lack of clarity in some of his statements. It is learnt that he will be quizzed again this week itself.
