Kochi: The NIA Special Court in Kochi has issued a non-bailable warrant against Faisal Fareed, the third accused in the Thiruvananthapuram gold smuggling case. NIA had requested the court on Monday to issue a warrant against Faisal who is currently in UAE. Considering this, NIA court judge P Krishnakumar issued the non-bailable warrant.
There is an agreement existing between India and UAE to deport the accused with the help of Interpol, if non-bailable warrant is issued against him. The NIA is trying to bring Faisal to India through this strategy or by another diplomatic moves and then arrest him. As the initial step to this process, the non-bailable warrant is issued.
Faisal Fareed is named the third accused in the case where 30 kilograms of 24 carat gold worth Rs 14.82 crore was seized from a diplomatic baggage at Thiruvananthapuram airport on July 5. The NIA found out that it was Faisal who sent the gold from Dubai.
