Jabalpur railway station redeveloped with improved aesthetics

The Jabalpur railway station under the west-central railways has been redeveloped with improved aesthetics and modern materials usage. The Ministry of Railways shared a video of the revamped railway station decked up with Jabalpur’s local art and design works. Furthermore, high-quality construction material has been used for redevelopment.

Renovation work

The station has been redeveloped under the Station Redevelopment scheme of the Ministry of Railways. It has been redeveloped with a focus on organizing the traffic circulation and enhancing the experience of passengers.

The facade of the station building towards platform number 6 has been renovated with glass fibre reinforced concrete while tensile fibre fabric material, a lightweight, low maintenance, recycled material is used in the pedestrian outside platform number 6. This fiber can be recycled and reused.

The powder-coated metal facade has been used to protect the building from weather conditions. To beautify the station, aesthetically appealing changes have been made such as the installation of a sky ceiling, a linear metal false ceiling that is not only attractive but lightweight, and durable in nature. Aluminum composite panels have been used as well for a modern look and smooth finish.

The designs are a blend of contemporary elements and local art and architecture of Jabalpur city. The main objective of redeveloping the railway station is to provide airport-level modern facilities by taking advantage of the additional land in and around the stations.

Railway redevelopment project

The redevelopment of Jabalpur station with beautification and provision of modern facilities like additional lift and escalators, improved parking, a new type of steel benches, etc are part of the railway redevelopment project under which the railway station is being renovated.

The redevelopment program is meant to transform railway stations into a travel hub. Recently, the Gandhinagar railway station and the Habibganj railway station were renovated. Similarly, the Nagpur railway station, Gwalior railway station, Surat railway station, and Kanpur railway station are under development stages for redevelopment under the Ministry of Railways.

Doubling project completed

On September 8, 2021, under the infrastructure development project, CRS inspection of doubling of Kaima – Sakariya Section (6.36 Km) as part of Satna – Rewa Doubling Project, Jabalpur Division was also completed. According to former Union Railway Minister, Piyush Goyal, this was an important railway project to improve the mobility on this route. With the doubling on the route, train connectivity will be enhanced in the region, and train operations are expected to be smooth.

Moreover, the Ministry is working to improve infrastructure facilities, passenger amenities, and train services in Madhya Pradesh with several projects inaugurated recently like the improved passenger amenities at SantHirdaram Nagar Station under Bhopal division, new foot overbridge at Karakbel station on the Itarsi-Jabalpur route among several others.
