Western media successfully painted riots in North East Delhi as “pogrom against Muslims” in India. Even politicians and so called intellectuals like US Senator, Bernie Sanders and UK Labour MP, Zarah Sultana, quickly issued statements about the riots being an anti-Muslim riots even if Several Hindu houses and shops were hand-picked by the rioters and set on fire or vandalised by Islamist mob.
42 years old Head Constable of Delhi Police, Rattan Lal was shot dead. 26 years old Ankit Sharma, an Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer, was brutally killed and his body was found in a drain in Chand Bagh Area. Vinod Kumar, a resident of Brahmpuri, was stoned to death. Vivek was drilled in his head. Army was thrown acid. A 51-year old man and his son were inhumanly assaulted and killed for simply carrying a “Jai Shri Ram” sticker on his motorbike by Islamist mob. And, more than 70 people received injuries in Delhi riots.
It is the responsibility of our media to give the right picture along with Ministry of Foreign Affairs on international platform. But, what was thoroughly depressing and disappointing was likes of Barkha Dutt, Rana Ayyub, Arfa Khanum and Saba Naqvi with Indian passport relentlessly spewed venom to defame and humiliate their own country on international platforms, instead of conveying correct scenario.
But, why would an Indian journalist join hands with ‘foreign media with vested interest’ to diligently provide wrong picture to denigrate their own country?
Senior journalist J Gopikrishnan, associated with The Pioneer, answered the question on 29 Feb, when he took to Twitter. J Gopikrishnan reveals a US-based newspaper publication offered him USD 1,500 for a 1,000 word per article to write on Delhi Riots asking how many died on Religion basis in connection with Trump’s visit. An angry J Gopikrishnan admonished the caller, “Your President Trump rightly call you as Presstitutes @#$%^&* @#$%^ ??.
What J Gopikrishnan disclosed about left leaning worldwide media’s vicious campaign to taint Indian government’s image as anti-Muslim was the tip of iceberg. However, J Gopikrishnan lifted the lid on the can, which is full of likes of Barkha Dutt, Rana Ayyub, Arfa Khanum and Saba Naqvi. Do they sell their souls USD 1,500 for a 1,000 word per article under the garb of free speech to humiliate their own country?
Why do gang of Barkha Dutt, Rana Ayyub, Arfa Khanum and Saba Naqvi never speak of victims, who are Hindus? Is this why they have been screaming intolerance and Hindu nationalists in foreign press since after 2014?
To be noted, Soviet parliament passed a bill to guarantee complete press freedom on 1 August 1990 guaranteeing broad rights for journalists. It was as if demon was let loose beyond control. Next, Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) was disintegrated into 15 parts on 26 December 1991.
“Free press with no regulation that played instrumental role to break USSR into 15 parts” must be an eye opener for India. India must act on demon beyond control called “free speech” before it starts biting the nation.
