iPhone XR is now being assembled locally in India, may get cheaper

Slowly and steadily Apple is getting back in the competition in India. The Cupertino major is doing that with the “affordable” iPhones — the iPhone XR and the iPhone 11. Apple launched the iPhone XR in India last year and this year the company unveiled the successor aka the iPhone 11. Both the iPhone XR and the iPhone 11 are selling like hot cakes in the country. In fact, during the Flipkart and Amazon festive sale the iPhone XR emerged as one of the best selling smartphones. During the festive sale the iPhone XR was available for as less as Rs 35,999 in India.

The retail price of the iPhone XR may get even cheaper in the country as the iPhone starts assembling in locally in the country. This report comes from Reuters. The report reveals that Apple starts selling locally manufactured iPhone XR in India now. The reports of iPhone XR being assembled in India was circulation on the internet for quite some time. The reports have now turned into a reality. The iPhone XR is now assembled in the country and the units are now available for purchase. With this move, Apple wants to expand its share in the world’s second-largest smartphone market.

The Reuters report further reveals that iPhone XR boxes with an “Assembled in India” tag were spotted in India across various retailers like Croma, on Monday. The 64GB version of the iPhone XR “Assemble in India” is seen selling at a price of Rs 49,900. In online retail stores as well, the iPhone XR is selling with the same price tag. We, however, believe that the India price of the iPhone XR may drop in the days to come as the phone is now being assembled in the country.

The report further reveals that the iPhone XR is currently being assembled at Taipei-based contract manufacturer Foxconn’s India factory. This is helping Apple to “avoid high levies on the import of fully-built devices as well as meet local sourcing norms for opening its own retail stores in India.” In the near further Apple may assemble more and more iPhones in India and that will eventually help the Cupertino major increase its lost market share in the country.
