The Government today said that India’s coal sector achieved a remarkable growth of over 18 percent among eight core industries this year. Ministry of Coal, in a statement, said that India’s domestic coal production is likely to cross one Billion tonne in 2023-2024. As per recent data, coal production has gone over 664 million tonnes during this Financial Year so far. Coal dispatch to the power sector also marked growth of above eight percent.
The Ministry said that a total of 31 Mines of Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Telangana were offered under 9th Round of Commercial Coal Mine Auction. It said that around 31 First Mile Connectivity Projects have been commissioned. Four railway projects commissioned for faster Coal Movement.
The Ministry further said that to strengthen India’s energy security, it has set a target to produce over one billion tonne domestically mined coal in the Financial Year 2025-26 and 1.5 billion tonnes in Financial Year 2030-31.
