The iconic Nilgiris Mountain Railway in Tamil Nadu, which has been accorded Heritage status by UNESCO, will resume regular services from tomorrow.
Railway authorities in Udhagamandalam (Ooty) have confirmed that in the first phase three services will be operated in both directions between Udhagamandalam and Coonoor.
The popular mountain rail service had been suspended for almost six months following the COVID-19 pandemic from last 20th March. The mountain rail, which passes through some of the most scenic parts of the Nilgiris district in the Western Ghats, is especially noted for its unique third rail which helps negotiating steep gradients.
The mountain rail usually operates between Mettupalayam in the foots hills of the Western Ghats and Udhargamandalam, the Queen of the Western Ghats. It is a popular tourist attraction and has been part of the locale of a large number of movies.
