Heavy rains cause fresh spells of flooding in several parts of Hyderabad

Very heavy rains caused fresh spells of flooding in several parts of Hyderabad. More colonies are facing floods following a breach in a  major lake at Balanagar near Hyderabad. Heavy rains in Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana caused the death of 50 people and huge damage just a couple of days ago. A five-year old died when an old wall collapsed at Mangalhat in the city.

Meanwhile, the met officials issued Orange warning asking people to be prepared for any eventuality. They warned of intense spells of rainfall along with thunderstorms at many places in Hyderabad and neighbouring areas for next 3 days due to formation of another low pressure.

Rain water that flooded some residential colonies in Hyderabad during last week is yet to recede and the fresh spells of last evening’s  heavy downpour added difficulties for residents at many places in the Twine cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. Streets are looking like canals and dozens of residential colonies are flooded and inundated. Hundreds of vehicles washed away in the flood water. Balapur lake near Hyderabad breached last evening also caused flooding of several colonies.

Relief measures are underway on war footing. Two teams of National Disaster Response Force and 19 teams of Disaster Response Force of  GHMC are carrying out relief works. About 170 monsoon emergency teams are clearing water stagnations across the city. Meanwhile, over 300 motor pumps have been deployed for pumping out flood water and removing piled-up sludge from the residential complexes. Intense spraying of anti larval and bleaching activities are underway and 60 tankers spread around the city spraying Sodium Hypochlorite solution to contain the spread of Coronavirus. Besides, mobile health camps have been sent to the rain affected areas in Hyderabad limits.
