Gujarat E-Vehicle Policy 2021: Overall growth in the EV ecosystem

In a bid to make Gujarat the manufacturing hub for e-vehicles, the State Government on Tuesday announced the policy for electric vehicles for the next four years.

“With this new policy, minimum 6 lakh tonnes of carbon emission will be reduced,” said Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.

This policy initiative aims to witness 2 lakh electric vehicles on the roads in the state within the next 4 years. In addition to this, additional 250 charging stations will also be established taking the total number of charging stations in the state to 528.

The new EV charging stations will come up at petrol pumps as well as housing and commercial spaces.

Quick Takes from the New EV Policy

  1. Gujarat government will provide a subsidy of up to Rs 20,000 on electric two-wheelers, Rs 50,000 on electric three-wheelers and Rs 1.50 lakh on electric four-wheelers
  2. The subsidy will be credited to the buyer’s bank account through DBT.
  3. Subsidies will be given to EV buyers along with benefits provided by the Central government under the second phase of the FAME India scheme.
  4. No registration fee will be charged for registering an electric vehicle at any Gujarat RTO.

India accelerates the ecosystem development for e-vehicles for RE growth

In order to bring comfort for EV buyers, support charging infrastructure and to propel overall growth in the EV ecosystem, India has taken some far-sighted initiatives.

The new EV policies by the government of Gujarat are going to build a landmark development across the country.

In other initiatives, India is already pushing towards fast-paced developments when it comes to Green Energy generation.

In April this year, experts from India and Japan discussed possibilities of collaboration for the promotion of hydrogen-based technologies as well as related innovations, trends, concerns, and solutions at a webinar on De-carbonisation: Exploring the Hydrogen Prospects and Innovative Technologies.

India believes that Electric vehicles are to be the future in the next 3-4 years as they provide opportunities to link the renewable power and low-carbon transport sectors.
