மேற்குத் தொடர்ச்சி மலைகளில் பசுமை மாறாக் காடுகள் 10 விழுக்காடு குறைவு

இந்திய அறிவியல் கழக பேராசிரியர் டி.வி. ராமச்சந்திரன் என்பவர் நடத்திய ஆய்வில், 1985ம் ஆண்டுக்குப் பின்னர் மேற்குத் தொடர்ச்சி மலைப்பகுதியில் வேளாண்மை 17 விழுக்காடும், மரநடவுகள் 40 விழுக்காடும், கட்டுமானப் பணிகள் 5 விழுக்காடும் அதிகரித்துள்ளதாகக் கூறப்பட்டுள்ளது.

காடுகள் அழிக்கப்படும் வேகம் அதிகமான இருப்பதால் அதன் எதிர்வினை அதிகமாக இருப்பதாகவும் அவர் குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளார். காடழிப்பு காரணமாக தமிழகம் மற்றும் கேரளாவில் மழை நாட்கள் குறைந்து வருவதையும், மகாராஷ்டிராவில் வெள்ளம் பெருக்கெடுப்பதையும் பேராசிரியர் சுட்டிக் காட்டி உள்ளார்.

காடுகளை அழிப்பதை குறைக்கவும், மரங்களை கூடுதலாக வளர்க்கவும் செய்தால் மட்டுமே இந்தக் குறையைப் போக்க முடியும் என்றும் பேராசிரியர் ராமச்சந்திரன் எச்சரித்துள்ளார்.
